Combatting physiological fatigue
Physiological fatigue may be due to inadequate rest, physical effort, or mental strain and is not caused by an underlying medical condition.20 This type of fatigue, in contrast to sleepiness, is usually worsened in the short term by exercise and is not relieved by a nap.20 Ways to manage this type of fatigue include:
Feed to fight fatigue- avoid heavy, fatty or high starch /sugar meals as these can make you feel more tired.34 Eat small meals and snacks every few hours throughout the day.34
Adequate sleep- generally, 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night for adults decreases tension and improves mood.20 Restructure your daily activities to get the sleep you need.20
Take short naps- these should be limited to less than one hour in the early afternoon.20
Interpersonal relationships-sustaining interpersonal relation-ships (friends and family) has been associated with improved fatigue due to any cause.20
Go to work- getting up and going to work has been associated with improvement in fatigue due to any cause.20
Use micronutrient supplements- supplementing your vitamin and mineral intake (especially vitamin C, B vitamins, calcium, magnesium may help to boost energy
Exercise daily- believe it or not, performing some form of daily exercise will increase your energy levels and help you to combat fatigue.20
